What is Passbook application? How does it function with iOS6?

I am glad to hear about the announcement of iOS6. I heard that the latest operating system from Apple will arrive with 200 new features. I came across an application called Passbook for iOS6. What is it all about? Please explain in detail.

Lanuch the passbook application and see the pass.

*** Leave everything as default (several fields that can be edited).

*** Tap on the Create button at the bottom.
